Don't fall for common IRS scams!

IRS scams are becoming increasingly common, with scammers using a variety of tactics to trick people out of their money. It is important to be aware of these scams and to know how to protect yourself. Here are some tips to help you avoid falling victim to an IRS scam:

  • Be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls or emails claiming to be from the IRS. The IRS typically contacts people via mail, not by phone or email.

  • If the caller or email sender claims to be from the IRS, ask for their name, badge number, and a call-back number. Then verify their information by contacting the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040.

  • Do not provide personal or financial information over the phone or via email. The IRS will never ask for this information over the phone or via email.

  • Be wary of threats or demands for immediate payment. Scammers often use scare tactics to pressure people into paying.

  • If you receive a suspicious phone call or email, report it to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov.

Remember, the IRS will never threaten to arrest you, demand immediate payment, or ask for personal or financial information over the phone or via email. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from IRS scams.
